2 Mississippi Casinos To Launch Sports Betting In August
On Monday, it was announced that two casinos in Mississippi will start accepting sports bets by mid-August.
Legal Mississippi sports betting was initially expected to launch by the end of July, however, renovations and last-minute regulatory requirements pushed the date back. Now, Harrah's Gulf Coast in Biloxi and Horseshoe Tunica are the first casinos in Mississippi to announce a tentative launch date.
Both casinos are owned by Caesars Entertainment, the global gaming corporation that already owns more than 10 different sportsbooks in Nevada and New Jersey. Mississippi sports betting will initially launch with only in-person betting, though options will expand in the future to match the mobile sports wagering capabilities at their Las Vegas sports books.
"The recent Supreme Court ruling allows us to expand our sports betting digital and mobile offerings into new markets," stated Mark Frissora, CEO of Caesars Entertainment. "We recognize that our customers expect exciting new experiences, which is why we will continue to offer new products through our mobile and digital platforms and inside our properties."
Harrah’s Biloxi and Horseshoe may be the first to start accepting sports bets for Mississippi sports betting, but that does not mean that they will be the only ones. Of the 28 casinos located in the state, the Mississippi Gaming Commission revealed that nearly half of the operators have applied for sports wagering licensure.
These two casinos are slightly ahead of the game, as the goal for Mississippi sportsbooks and those in other states is to open by the start of football season. College football officially kicks off on August 26, with Ole Miss Rebels vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 1 on ESPN. If you want to bet on Ole Miss in their season opener, the betting line at Bovada has the Rebels as slight 2-point underdogs against Texas Tech.
